Winter is (Almost) Over

Winter Is (almost) Over
The last time I wrote in my blog, was the hardest day of my life. That was almost three months ago, and boy howdy have things changed.
When I was home over winter break, every day I visited my mom at the hospital and made it my goal to make the nurses think I was the most eccentric visitor they’d ever seen. I remember one day wearing a full kimono and satin trousers in the waiting room looking like a bad Katherine Hepburn impersonator. The nurse gave me a look and asked my mom, “So exactly HOW do you know her.” I remember Christmas Eve with just my dad at The Cheesecake Factory trying to find some semblance of Christmas spirit wearing a big red sweater. I remember Alayna coming to visit my mom, and the both of us looking like the Sex Pistols were giving a reunion concert at Baylor Health Center. I’ll include some of those looks in this post. The clothes I wore reminded me I had control over anything at all. They gave me confidence on the many days I could hardly get myself out of bed.
But I’m not going to pretend like the clothes meant more than they did. There are full weeks where I have no idea what I wore, I was just trying to feel okay day to day.

The other day, I was walking home, and suddenly had the urge to shed my winter coat. Not because I was really putting in a hustle to getting home, but because it was miraculously getting warmer. As I took off my coat, I noticed buds on the trees and was left with an immediate overwhelming happiness. Winter is almost over. And I think so is this thing that’s happening to me.

There are certain things that happen in your life that make you different forever. I’ve had a few of those lately.

As the winter comes to a close, I’m thinking about my initial mission of this blog. I was going to wear all the planned outfits from my board every day. Those little colored pencil Jamie’s were going to guide me to blog stardom. Instead, the winter raged on and I sometimes didn’t even want to exist, let alone wear a trendy outfit. But I did. And I couldn’t imagine anything getting better, but still, it did. Thank you to everyone who has been here with me through the last few months, new and old friends.

So as the weather gets warmer, and the temperatures rise, it’s sayonara on the winter blog- till next year.
